Men?s Golf Closes Out Fall Slate With 15th-Place Finish

NORMAL, Ill. -- Junior Coby Thompson (East Galesburg, Ill./Knoxville) was the only Bradley player to shoot all three rounds in the 70's, finishing out play at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate with scores of 77 and 78 at the par-70 Weibring Golf Course Monday.  Thompson tied for 48th in the field and helped the Bradley Men's Golf team to a 15th place finish in the final tournament of the Fall schedule.

Thompson was the Braves top finisher, tying for 48th at 232 (77-77-78) and finished the Fall with a team-best 76.6 stroke average.  Senior Zach Wanken (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) shot rounds of 80 and 85 during the final day to finish two shots behind Thompson in a tie for 54th at 234.  Sophomore Chris Niemiec (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles) turned in the lowest score in the second round for Bradley, matching his first round 76 and carded an 82 in the third round to tie Wanken at 234 for 54th place.

Senior Zach Zobrist (Morton, Ill./Peoria Christian) finished up his second round with an 82 and shot a third-round 87 to finish alone in 86th at 248.  Sophomore Earl Gerlach (Normal, Ill./Normal West) tied for 87th at 249 in his first tournament of the year after carding rounds of 85 and 83, while freshman Brad Weiss (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles) was in the field as an individual and finished tied for 84th at 247 (81-80-86).

Tournament-host Illinois State ran away with the team title, shooting 873 for the 54-hole event.  Western Illinois was 15 shots behind the Redbirds in second at 888, while UMKC and Detroit tied for third place at 905.  Loyola-Chicago finished one shot back in fifth at 906 and held a two-shot lead on sixth-place Missouri State (908).  Loyola (Md.) took seventh at 912 and was followed by Eastern Illinois in eighth (915). 

Missouri Valley Conference foe Northern Iowa captured ninth at 916 with South Dakota State and Southern Illinois following in a tie for 10th place at 918.  Butler and SIU Edwardsville tied for 12th in the team standings at 920.  Creighton closed out play in 14th at 934 and Bradley was 10 shots back in 15th place (944) to round out the field.
