PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior Coby Thompson (East Galesburg, Ill./Knoxville) and senior Zach Wanken (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) were both named First-Team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District V At-Large selections announced Thursday. Wanken is a repeat Academic All-District pick after earning second-team honors last year, while Thompson joins Wanken as the only Academic All-District selections in program history.
The first three-time Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete in program history, Wanken ranked second on the team with a 77.3 stroke average and 19 rounds in the 70's. In his final season on The Hilltop, he posted five top 20 finishes which included a 12th place finish at the State Farm MVC Championship.
A Second-Team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District V selection as a junior, Wanken was Bradley's top finisher in five of 10 tournaments and finished his career tied for 17th in school history with 61 career rounds in the 70's. A chemistry major, Wanken owns a 3.95 cumulative grade point average.
Thompson is a two-time First-Team MVC Scholar-Athlete and led the team with a 77.2 stroke average. He finished in the top 10 in three events and his 22 rounds in the 70's led the squad. Bradley's top finisher in five of 10 tournaments, Thompson was 15th at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship and placed in the top 20 six times.
A chemistry major, Thompson owns a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average. He joined Wanken and Ryan Blask as the only two-time MVC Scholar-Athletes in program history. Thompson enters his senior year tied for 19th in program history with a 77.6 career stroke average and his 61 career rounds in the 70's is tied with Wanken's 61 for 17th in school history.
Bradley was the only school to have two individuals named to the 10-member Academic All-District V First Team and the duo will now appear on the ballot for Academic All-America voting.
To be eligible for the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve, maintain a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and reached sophomore athletic and academic standings in order to be nominated
