KANSAS CITY, Mo (courtesy NABC) - Three members of the Bradley University men's basketball team - Sam Maniscalco, Dodie Dunson and Charonn Woods, were announced as members of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court in recognition of their academic success.
According to the announcement from the coaching organization, "The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts that these men possess off the court, and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom." In order to be named to the Honors Court, an athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria: junior or senior academically with a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade point average. The Bradley men's basketball program was one of just 29 NCAA Division I teams to place as many as three student-athletes on the 2009-10 NABC Honors Court.
Earning a spot on the NABC Honors Court is the latest academic honor for Maniscalco (Chicago, Ill./St. Patrick H.S.), who also was voted to the I-AAA Athletic Director's Association Scholar-Athlete Team and named a first-team Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete this year. Majoring in sports communication, Maniscalco has earned a spot on the Bradley Athletic Director's Honor Roll in each of his first six semesters.
Both Dunson and Woods recorded perfect 4.0 semester grade point averages last spring, helping the Braves post a program-best 3.12 team GPA, and both student-athletes have earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for all of their semesters at Bradley. Majoring in social work, Dunson (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington H.S.) was a candidate for the 2010 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award before a broken arm two games into the season ended his 2009-10 campaign. A health science major, Woods (St. Louis, Mo./MAC H.S.) boasts a 4.0 cumulative grade point average through his first three years at Bradley.
