PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior women's golfer Kelly Amundrud (Calgary, Alberta/Strathcona Tweedsmuir) won a pair of awards, earning Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week and Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors announced Wednesday after winning the individual medalist title at last week's Butler Fall Invitational.
Amundrud claimed medalist honors for the first time in her career, shooting a one-under par 143 to finish six shots ahead of her nearest competitor and help the Bradley women's golf team to its first tournament title since 2008. She was named the Missouri Valley Conference golfer of the week, after shooting rounds of 73 and a career-best, two-under par 70 at the par-72 Pines Course at Eagle Creek Golf Club. An accounting major, Amundrud owns a 3.90 cumulative grade point average.
To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Amundrud and the Braves return to action Oct. 18 & 19 at the Payne Stewart Memorial in Springfield, Mo.
