PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior center Leah Kassing (Mt. Sterling, Ill./Brown County) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after helping the Bradley women's basketball team to a pair of road wins and 2-1 record last week.

Kassing, who earned Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week honors earlier this week, averaged 19.3 points on 62.5 percent shooting and pulled down 10.7 rebounds per game last week.  She opened the week with a career-best 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting and also had seven rebounds against Wisconsin-Milwaukee.  Kassing had 13 points and 11 boards to help highlight a 71-63 win at Butler and collected 22 points on 10-of-15 from the field and a career-high 14 rebounds at Central Michigan.  An elementary education major, Kassing owns a 3.00 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Kassing the Braves (7-3 overall) open a season-long, four-game home stand Saturday, Dec. 17 against Iowa (7 p.m.) at Renaissance Coliseum.  Tickets for the game, which will be the Hawkeyes first trip to Peoria since the 1982-83 season, are available for $1 at the Bradley Athletics Ticket Office.
