Box Score

PEORIA, Ill. - Designated hitter Greg Partyka and the Bradley Baseball team picked up where they left off in a home-and-home series against Iowa, downing the Hawkeyes (16-20) by a 7-3 score for the second time in seven days Tuesday night at O'Brien Field.

Partyka, who hit a pair of home runs in last week's win at Iowa, belted a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first inning Tuesday, then started Bradley's go-ahead rally when he was hit by the first pitch he saw with one out in the fourth inning.  He came around to score on an Austin Jarvis single and the Braves (21-16-1) made it a 4-run inning when Andrew Wasmund followed with a 2-run double and scored on a David Compitello single to right.

Senior right-hander Justin Ziegler (3-4) bounced back from a rough start Saturday at Illinois State and limited the Hawkeyes to three runs, one earned, on six hits in his 6.0 innings.  The bullpen trio of Steve Adkins, Jacob Booden and Danny Gifford did the rest, each allowing one hit in 1.0 scoreless inning while combining to strike out seven.

Freshman center fielder Max Murphy added an insurance run in the seventh inning, delivering an RBI single to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.  Murphy, who has been on base in every game this season, now has enjoyed two 11-game hitting streaks.

The Braves will return to action Wednesday night by hosting Northern Illinois (11-28) in a 6 p.m. game at O'Brien Field in hopes of building momentum in advance of their weekend Missouri Valley Conference series at Evansville.

NOTES:  By sweeping the home-and-home series against Iowa, Bradley improved to 3-1 against the Big Ten Conference this year ... The Braves previously split a home-and-home series against Illinois, answering a 6-3 loss with a 6-3 win against the Illini ... Junior utility player David Compitello got his first start at third base in place of the injured Rob Elliott and responded by going 2-for-3 with an RBI and making several solid plays at the hot corner ... Compitello became the third player to start at third base this season ... Partyka matched Murphy for the team lead with his eighth home run and increased his team-leading RBI total to 37.
