SASKATOON, Saskatchewan -- Sophomore women's golfer Thea Hedemann (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan/Walter Murray) dominated the field at the 2012 Saskatoon Women's Amateur Championship, claiming medalist honors by seven strokes Tuesday afternoon at the par-72 Riverside Country Club.
The 2011-12 Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year and All-Valley performer, Hedemann opened tournament play with a two-under par 70 Monday and followed it up with a final round 74 to claim top honors over runner-up Danielle Pinder, who shot 151 in the two-day tournament.
Hedemann had a six-shot lead on the field heading into Tuesday's final round, which included a 40-minute rain delay. Her victory snapped Kathy Ziglo's three-year run as tournament champion.
Hedemann will be in action July 9-11 at the Saskatchewan Women's Provincial Championship at the Willows Golf and Country Club in Saskatoon. She was third at last year's Saskatchewan Women's Amateur Championship last July after claiming the 2011 provincial junior championship and has finished in the top four at the Saskatchewan Women's Amateur Championship each of the last two years.
