PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior middle blocker Amy Angelos (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after earning all-tournament honors at the season-opening North Carolina Central Invitational.
Angelos helped the Braves to a 3-0 record during the opening weekend of play, leading the team in kills in two of three matches and averaging 3.20 kills per set. She had a match-high 11 kills and hit .733 in the season-opening sweep of Elon. Against tournament-host North Carolina Central, Angelos had 10 kills with no hitting errors and also collected three blocks and a pair of aces. She capped the week with a match-high 11 kills, two aces and two blocks in a sweep of defending Big South Conference regular-season co-champion Winthrop. A hospitality leadership major, Angelos owns a 3.16 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Angelos and the Braves return to action Friday, opening play at the Panther Invitational in Milwaukee, Wis., with a 1:30 p.m. match against tournament-host Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
