PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior defensive specialist/libero Lauren Zerante (Elmhurst, Ill./York) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after earning all-tournament honors at the Panther Invitational in Milwaukee, Wis., last week.

Zerante played two matches at libero and made her first career start at setter Saturday afternoon against Western Michigan, averaging 3.73 digs per set for the week, while helping Bradley to a 2-1 record.  In her two matches at libero, she averaged 4.13 digs per set, notching 17 digs in BU's five-set win at defending Horizon League regular-season champ and preseason favorite Wisconsin-Milwaukee.  She followed it up with 16 digs and a career-best three aces in a sweep of East Carolina to help Bradley improve to 5-0.  In her first career appearance at setter, Zerante had 21 assists and eight digs against Western Michigan.  A marketing major, Zerante owns a 3.44 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Zerante and the Braves return to action Saturday in Brookings, S.D., facing Wisconsin-Green Bay (1 p.m.) and tournament-host South Dakota State (7 p.m.) at the Jackrabbit Invitational.
