PEORIA, Ill. -- For the second consecutive week, sophomore Shronda Butts (Des Moines, Iowa/East) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after scoring a career-high 34 points in last week's game at Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week on Monday, Butts scored 28 of her career-best 34 points after halftime and also matched a career-best with five assists in the highest scoring game in Missouri Valley Conference history. Her 34 points were the most by a Bradley player since Shelli Braud had 34 against Illinois State on Feb. 24, 1988 and is tied for the third most points in a game in school history. A sports communication major, Butts owns a 3.30 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Butts and the Braves return to action Tuesday, hosting Illinois-Chicago (6 p.m.) at Renaissance Coliseum in the final non-conference home game of the season.
