PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore distance runner Sarah McMahon (Colfax, Wis./Colfax) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after earning all-conference in the 5,000 meters at last week's Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship.
McMahon, who also earned the MVC's Elite 18 Award at the MVC Indoor Championship, scored 11 of Bradley's 25 points to help the Braves to their highest team point total since 1999 and a seventh-place finish. She earned the fifth all-conference honor of her career Sunday in the 5,000 meters, finishing third with a career-best time of 16:52.72. McMahon joined former Bradley All-American Mary Ellen Hill as the only individuals in program history to break 17 minutes in the 5,000 meters and finished 14 seconds off Hill's school-record time. On Saturday, McMahon placed fourth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:48.46, missing her career-best by five seconds and was four seconds from earning all-conference recognition in the event. An English major, McMahon owns a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
McMahon is one of three Bradley runners scheduled to compete Saturday at the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
