Box Score 2 EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Bradley held two-run leads in both games of Saturday's doubleheaders at Evansville, but the Purple Aces rallied in both contests for 6-5 and 8-3 victories at Cooper Stadium as the Braves continued a seven-game Missouri Valley Conference road swing.
Junior Madeline Lynch-Crumrine (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Sedro-Woolley) collected hits in both contests to extend her hit streak to a career-best eight games, while freshman Kathryn Spenn (Williamsville, Ill./Williamsville) hit a grand slam in the opener and drove in five of the Braves' eight runs on the day. Junior Bailiegh Basham (Mattoon, Ill./Mattoon) reached base in all six of her plate appearances, going 1-for-1 with a double, two RBI, a hit by pitch and four walks to help highlight the day offensively for BU.
Evansville (15-23 overall, 6-7 MVC) took advantage of two Bradley errors in the bottom of the second inning in the first game to push three runs across.
Bradley (20-19 overall, 5-7 MVC) answered with a five-run top of the third to go in front 5-3. An error, single and walk loaded the bases for Basham who drew a walk on four consecutive pitches to plate sophomore Brittany Burgess (Utica, Ill./St. Bede). Spenn followed with the big hit of the day, belting a grand slam to left center to give the Braves a 5-3 lead. The homer was Spenn's second in as many games and was the first grand slam for BU since Lynch-Crumrine hit one at Creighton on April 3, 2011.
The Purple Aces left the bases loaded in the fifth, before breaking through for three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Back-to-back doubles to open the frame led to a run and Evansville tied it up at 5-5 on a RBI double by Victoria Dellorto. She later scored the go-ahead run on a Tamara Robey as UE took a 6-5 lead.
Evansville pitcher Sarah Patterson retired Bradley in order in the top of the seventh to close out the win for the Purple Aces. Lynch-Crumrine fell to 12-9 on the season with the loss in the circle in the opener, scattering five hits and three runs over five innings.
In the nightcap, the Braves scored a pair of run in the top of the first inning to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. Basham opened the scoring with a two-out double to score sophomore Alyson Clemente (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley) from first and Spenn drove in Basham from second for her fifth RBI of the day with a single to left center.
Kayla Fortner got Evansville on the scoreboard in bottom half of the first with a two-out solo homer for her seventh dinger of the year.
Bradley added another run in the top of the fourth, but Evansville responded with six runs in the bottom half of the inning. Junior Alex Chandler (Needles, Calif./Needles) opened the BU half inning with a single and scored on a two-out single off the bat of sophomore Shannon King (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) to push the Bradley advantage to 3-1.
A double, single and walk loaded the bases with one out for Evansville in the bottom of the fourth and Kacey Rogers drove in the first of six runs with a single. Another run scored on a BU error to tie things up at 3-3 and a three-run Dellorto double made it a 6-3 Purple Aces' lead. Fortner capped the inning with an RBI single to put UE in front 7-3.
The Braves managed just one hit in the final three innings and Evansville added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth as the Purple Aces completed the doubleheader sweep with an 8-3 win.
Senior Mackenzie Camp (Mapleton, Ill./Limestone) struck out seven and walked two in the loss, dropping to 8-9 on the year with the setback.
Bradley closes out the three-game series at Evansville Sunday with a noon contest against the Purple Aces.
