PEORIA, Ill. -- Bradley came up on the wrong end of a pitcher's dual as Drake edged the Braves 2-1 in the first game of a doubleheader and the Bulldogs held on for a 10-6 win in the second game to take a pair of games from BU Saturday afternoon at Laura Bradley Park.

Junior Madeline Lynch-Crumrine (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Sedro-Woolley) scattered five runs (four earned) and 11 hits over 11.2 innings of work between the two games for Bradley, but Drake belted four home runs and 18 hits in the two games to take both games of the doubleheader.

In the opener, Drake (25-16 overall, 11-4 MVC) capitalized on a Bradley (21-21 overall, 6-9 MVC) error in the top of the first inning for a run as Amy Pierce scored one of her five runs on the day on a BU miscue.

Lynch-Crumrine got out of a bases loaded jam in top of the fourth without surrendering a run and junior Alex Chandler (Needles, Calif./Needles) tied the game at 1-1 with a solo home run in the bottom half of the inning.  The homer was Chandler's fourth of the year and eighth of her career.

Drake went back in front (2-1) with a run in the top of the fifth after Pierce led off the frame with a double.  Pierce moved to third on a Hayley Nybo single and scored the go-ahead run on a Nicole Randel sacrifice fly.

Bradley threatened again in the bottom of the fifth with runners at second and third with one out, but the Braves had a runner thrown out on a failed squeeze play and Drake pitcher Rebekah Schmidt fanned the next batter to end the inning.  A two-out Drake error and Brittany Burgess (Utica, Ill./St. Bede) single in the bottom of the seventh gave Bradley hope, but Schmidt retired the next two batters to close out the victory and earn her sixth save of the year.

Lynch-Crumrine dropped to 13-10 on the year with the loss in the opener for the Braves, despite holding Drake to two runs (one earned) in the complete game effort.

In the nightcap, Drake jumped out to a 9-1 lead and held on for a 10-6 victory to complete the doubleheader sweep.  Pierce was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and six RBI in the first three innings of the game to power Drake to the win.

She led off the game with a solo homer and added a RBI single in the second before highlighting a six-run third inning for the Bulldogs with a two-out grand slam on a full count as Drake built a 9-1 advantage.

Freshman Kathryn Spenn (Williamsville, Ill./Williamsville) drove in a run in the first with a two-out single and later added a two-run homer in the bottom of the third to help Bradley pull within 9-3.  The Braves added three more runs in the fifth, taking advantage of a pair of Drake errors to cut the Bulldogs' lead to 9-6.  Lynch-Crumrine and Chandler both helped highlight the three-run fifth for the Braves with RBI singles.

Drake added an insurance run in the top of the sixth on a Nybo single and Schmidt pitched around a sixth-inning single and a walk in the seventh to close out the win for the Bulldogs.  Schmidt earned her seventh save of the year, striking out seven hitters in just three innings of work out of the bullpen.

Senior Mackenzie Camp (Mapleton, Ill./Limestone) struck out six batters in 2.1 innings of work, but gave up seven runs in the loss to drop to 8-10 on the season.

Bradley and Drake close out the three-game MVC series Sunday with a single game at noon at Laura Bradley Park.
