SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Freshman shortstop Tyler Leffler was 2-for-4 with a pair of 2-out, RBI singles, but that was all the offense Bradley (12-22, 1-11 MVC) could muster in a 6-2 loss at Missouri State (24-11, 9-3) Sunday afternoon at Hammons Field.
Missouri State completed the weekend series sweep and remains tied atop the Missouri Valley Conference standings with Wichita State.
The Bears pushed across five runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings against Bradley starter John Nasshan (1-6) to take control. The Braves managed eight hits against four Missouri State hurlers. Andy Cheray (1-2) earned his first win by allowing two runs on five hits in 5.2 innings of work.
Tate Matheny paced the Missouri State offense by going 3-for-5, while shortstop Travis McComack was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI's for the Bears.
While Bradley has played the fewest home games in the Valley, the Braves will open a season-long, 12-game home stand Wednesday by hosting SIU Edwardsville in a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Peoria Chiefs Stadium. Bradley also will welcome I-74 rival Illinois State next weekend, starting with a 6 p.m. game Friday.
