DES MOINES, Iowa – Both the men's and women's 4x1600 meter relay teams turned in the second fastest times in school history to highlight the opening day of competition at the 104th Drake Relays for the Bradley track and field teams Thursday night.
In the men's 4x1600 meter relay, the group of sophomore Eric Delvo (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin), sophomore Chase Coffey (Hanna City, Ill./Farmington), freshman Cole Dill (Tremont, Ill./Tremont) and junior Daniel Allen (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) challenged the 1988 school record and finished fifth in the field. The team's time of 17:11.32 was 15 seconds out of the top three and less than nine seconds off the school record pace of 17:02.84 set in 1988.
The freshmen trio of Rachel Sudbury (Tomahawk, Wis./Tomahawk), Caitlin Busch (Waterloo, Ill./Freeburg) and Kristen Busch (Waterloo, Ill./Freeburg) along with sophomore Taylor Johnson (Lincoln, Neb./Southeast) opened the day's competition for BU with a sixth-place finish in the women's 4x1600 meter relay. The group crossed the line in a time of 20:06.75 for the second fastest time in program history behind the 2012 school record of 19:45.65.
Sophomore Sarah McMahon (Colfax, Wis./Colfax) was the only Bradley individual to compete Thursday, clocking a time of 17:14.01 and was 15th in the women's 5,000 meters.
Bradley continues competition at the Drake Relays Friday and Saturday in addition to sending a contingent to the Stan Lyons Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind., Saturday.
