CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Bradley men's golf team shot a second-round 304 to wrap up the first day of competition at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship in fifth place. Junior Kyle Gunther (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Christian) is tied for 18th to pace the Braves at the par-72 Dalhousie Country Club.
Bradley followed up a morning round 307 with a 304 in the afternoon to finish Monday's action fifth in the standings 611. The Braves are two shots behind fourth-place Drake (609) and 11 shots back of third-place Southern Illinois (600). Pre-championship favorite Wichita State shot a seven-under par 281 in the second round to finish the day at 569 and the Shockers have a commanding lead on second-place Illinois State (593).
Following Bradley in a tie for sixth are Evansville and Northern Iowa, one shot back of the Braves at 612. Missouri State is eighth in the team standings (615) and Creighton completes the field in ninth (629).
Gunther is Bradley's leader in the clubhouse with a 36-hole score of 153, closing the day in a tie for 18th. He carded rounds of 75 and 78 and enters Tuesday's final round three shots out of a tie for 10th in the individual standings.
Sophomore Seth Trolia (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) is one shot behind Gunther in a tie for 22nd at 154, following rounds of 76 and 78 on the opening day. Fellow sophomore Danny Masrin (Palatine, Ill./Jakarta International School) rebounded from a first round 80 with a three-over par 75 as he finished Monday's play tied for 27th at 155.
Junior Daniel Young (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) is tied for 33rd overall at 157, shooting rounds of 76 and 81. Fellow junior Andrew Weisenborn (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) turned in the low round of the day for the Braves with a second-round 73. Weisenborn climbed into a tie for 37th after his one-over par 73 in the afternoon, closing the day with a two-round total of 159.
The third and final round of the MVC Championship is scheduled to begin Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. with tee times. Bradley's first tee time is slated for 9:20 a.m.
