Box Score PEORIA, Ill. -- Defending Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year Jamie Fisher took a perfect game into the fourth inning and surrendered just four hits to Bradley as Northern Iowa blanked the Braves 8-0 Tuesday afternoon at Laura Bradley Park.
Bradley (22-27 overall, 7-15 MVC) struggled against Fisher early on, tallying four hits in the six-inning game while striking out eight times. Junior Brianne Joseph (Post Falls, Idaho/Post Falls) collected two of BU's four hits in the contest, going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Fisher and UNI (23-24 overall, 13-8 MVC) had an early lead after pushing two runs across in the top of the first. Gina Brown opened the scoring with a RBI single to right and Haley Kriener added another run with a two-out, run-scoring infield single to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead.
Joseph broke up the no hitter with a single to lead off the fourth, but was stranded at second base and UNI broke the game open with five runs in the top of the fifth. Brown drove in another run with a bases loaded bloop single down the right field line and Kristin Lock had to settle for a two-run single off the fence in center, which came inches away from leaving the park. Kriener drove in another run with a single up the middle and Lock stole home on a double steal to push the Panthers' advantage to 7-0.
Fisher pitched around a Kendall Duffy (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) single in the bottom of the fifth and UNI added another run in the top of the sixth to take an 8-0 lead on a RBI double off the bat of Caitlin Wnek.
Bradley had its only real scoring chance of the game in the bottom of the sixth after Joseph tried to start a rally attempt with a one-out single. Junior Alex Chandler (Needles, Calif./Needles) followed with a double, but Joseph was later thrown out trying to score on a fielder's choice and Fisher struck out the next batter she faced to close out the victory.
Junior Madeline Lynch-Crumrine (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Sedro-Woolley) took the loss in the circle for the Braves to even her record on the year at 14-14 with the setback. Senior Mackenzie Camp (Mapleton, Ill./Limestone) came out of the bullpen and gave up just two hits and one run in one and two-third innings of work.
Bradley plays the final road game of the 2013 season Thursday, facing I-74 rival Illinois State at 5 p.m. in Normal, Ill., before closing out the regular-season with a weekend home stand against Missouri State Saturday and Sunday at Laura Bradley Park.
