PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior outfielder Mike Tauchman (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after hitting .412 in five games last week.
Tauchman tied Bradley Athletics Hall-of-Famer Nelson Correa (1996-99) school record by reaching base safely for the 340th time in his career Sunday against Illinois State, going 2-for-4 in the contest. He was 7-for-17 in the five games last week, including a perfect 4-for-4 day with one run and two RBI Saturday vs. the Redbirds. Tauchman helped the Braves open the week on a strong note, going 1-for-2 with one RBI in a 3-0 win against SIU Edwardsville in the first contest of a season-long, 12-game home stand. A business management and administration major, Tauchman owns a 3.23 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Tauchman and the Bradley baseball team continue their 12-game home stand Friday with a 6 p.m. game against MacMurray at Peoria Chiefs Stadium.
