Sam Black (Atalissa, Iowa/West Liberty) turned in a double-double, finishing with 22 assists and 10 digs, but Drake used an efficient offensive attack to down the Braves 25-15, 25-17, 25-21 Friday night in Missouri Valley Conference volleyball action at the Drake Knapp Center.
Junior Amy Reichel (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) led Bradley offensively with seven kills and Black had team-highs of 22 assists and 10 digs. The Braves (6-25 overall, 2-15 MVC) hit .085 in the match, but couldn't overcome a Drake attack which boasted a .319 attack percentage.
Drake (12-20 overall, 5-13 MVC) scored seven of the first eight points of the match and cruised to a 25-15 opening set win. Bradley held a 13-12 lead in the second set, but the Bulldogs used a 12-2 run to take a 24-15 lead en route to a 25-17 Drake victory.
With the score tied 18-18 in the third set, the Bulldogs scored three of the next four points to take a 21-19 lead. The Braves pulled back to within one point at 22-21, when Emily Madden followed with one of her match-high 10 kills to give Drake a two-point edge at 23-21. A pair of Bradley attack errors provided the final margin as the Bulldogs closed out the match with a 25-21 win.
Reichel led the Braves with seven kills. Sophomore Melissa Collins (Manchester, Mo./Parkway South) and freshman Megan Schmidt (Bloomington, Ill./Central Catholic) each added six kills to help pace Bradley's offensive efforts.
Madden turned in a double-double to lead Drake, finishing with 10 kills and 10 digs. Michelle Reidy also collected 10 kills and recorded seven blocks, helping the Bulldogs to an 11-4 edge in blocks. Alana Wittenburg posted a match-best 18 digs to lead Drake defensively.
Bradley returns to action Saturday when the Braves close out the 2008 season with a 7 p.m. match at Creighton.
