SAUGET, Ill. ? Collin Brennan (Williamsville, Ill./Williamsville H.S.), a senior right-handed pitcher on Bradley's 2009 baseball team, has signed a free agent contract with the Gateway Grizzlies of the independent Frontier League and is expected to make his professional debut Friday night when the Grizzlies host the Rockford RiverHawks in a 7:05 p.m. game at GCS Ballpark.
Brennan made 49 pitching appearances in his four years at Bradley, finishing with an 8-17 record and a 5.85 earned run average. He racked up 188 strikeouts in his 213.2 career innings pitched, good for 7.9 strikeouts per nine innings. Brennan enjoyed his best season as a freshman in 2006 when he went 5-3 with four saves.
Brennan becomes the second member of Bradley's 2009 squad to sign a professional contract, following fellow hurler Rob Scahill, who was drafted by Colorado in the eighth round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft and signed with the Rockies Tuesday night. The addition of Brennan and Scahill gives Bradley seven current professional baseball players.
