PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore cross country runner Sarah McMahon (Colfax, Wis./Colfax) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after finishing fifth at the 2012 Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Championship.

McMahon was Bradley's top finisher at the MVC Cross Country Championship, earning all-conference honors for the second consecutive year after placing fifth with a time of 17:47.  The fourth two-time all-conference cross country runner in school history, McMahon's fifth-place finish was the best by a BU runner since 2009 and her time ranks as the fourth fastest 5K in school history at the Valley Championship behind three times posted by BU Hall of Fame runner Mary Ellen Hill at the 1997, 1998 and 1999 championships.  An english major, McMahon owns a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

The Bradley men's and women's cross country teams will send a small contingent to the Huskie Open Friday in DeKalb, Ill., (5 p.m.) before the Braves take part in the NCAA Midwest Regional in Springfield, Mo., on Friday, Nov. 9.
