PEORIA, Ill. – Bradley University will retain its Braves nickname for its NCAA intercollegiate athletic teams and the school will continue to investigate the opportunity to introduce a mascot to represent its teams, according to an announcement today by Bradley Director of Athletics Dr. Michael Cross.

Bradley recently conducted a survey designed to solicit opinions about Bradley University's athletic nickname and the possibility of creating a mascot for the University.  More than 4,100 people completed the survey. Approximately two-thirds of the responses came from alumni, 30 percent from students and the remaining responses came from faculty, staff and supporters of the athletic program.

“Based on analysis of the survey data and in-depth internal discussions about the data, we have determined that Bradley University will retain the nickname Braves,” said Cross.  “We appreciate the time that so many people took to be part of this process.  The input was, and will remain, valuable as we continue to move forward to develop a mascot.”

The survey data revealed a strong majority sentiment that Bradley should develop a mascot to represent the Athletic Department.  No specific mascot has been identified, however, and Bradley will continue to explore options and carry on conversations with various University constituencies to find a solution that the University community will embrace.
