Bradley Athletics Megan C. Fong Inspiration Award: 2012
Joe Dolan is in his 15th year as the Director of Group Sales for the Bradley Athletic Department, but as a Peoria native, his love affair with Bradley University goes back several decades. So far, in fact, that Dolan watched Bradley basketball games played in the Peoria Armory. After graduating from Spalding Academy in 1952, Dolan attended Bradley and played on the freshman basketball team, as well as the men's golf team. Midway through his academic career, though, Dolan left Bradley to serve his country in the US Army.
After a long and distinguished career in sales at the Peoria Journal Star, Dolan would returned to The Hilltop in 1997, at the age of 62, Joe began selling tickets and advertising for the Braves. He is a tireless worker who runs circle around people half his age. Still an avid golfer able to shoot his age, Joe never takes a cart.
During his 15 years at Bradley, both Joe and his wife Del have been diagnosed with and beaten cancer. Through both of these battles, Dolan continued to come to work with his classic style of dress and infectious attitude, commonly serenading his co-workers while walking the hallways. At age 77, Joe continues to go above-and-beyond at work and out in the community and remains an integral part of the department, showing no signs of slowing down.
