CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Senior Jackie Roth (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI and was one of three Bradley players to have two hits in the contest, but Boston scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to pull out a 5-3 victory against the Braves Friday at the Under Armour Showcase.
Bradley (7-9 overall) jumped out to a 1-0 lead, scoring a run on a Boston error in the top of the first. Roth had a one-out single and moved to third after a steal and wild pitch. She later scored when sophomore Madeline Lynch-Crumrine (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Sedro-Woolley) reached on an error.
Boston answered with a run in the bottom of the first to pull even at 1-1. A one-out walk and single set things up for Brittany Clendenny, who drove in Chelsea O'Conner from second with a single to right.
The Braves scored a pair of two-out runs in the top of the second to take a 3-1 lead. Sophomore Brianne Joseph (Post Falls, Idaho/Post Falls) singled and stole second. Following a Mariah Cole (Springfield, Ill./Chatham Glenwood) single, Joseph stole home to put BU in front 2-1. Roth drove in Cole from second with a two-out infield single to give Bradley a 3-1 advantage.
The Terriers got one run back in the bottom of the second inning, however, on a run-scoring single off the bat of O'Connor and tied things at 3-3 with a run in the fourth. Emily Felbaum led off the fourth with a double and scored the tying run on a RBI groundout by Jayme Mask.
Boston scored twice in the sixth to go ahead 5-3 and Terrier hurler Holli Floetker retired Bradley in order in the seventh to close out the game. Mask drove in her second run of the game with a two-out, run-scoring single and O'Connor plated Mask with a single of her own.
Lynch-Crumrine took the loss in the circle for the Braves, dropping to 4-6 on the year.
Bradley was also scheduled to play Wagner at 3:15 p.m. (CST) Friday during the opening day of play at the Under Armour Showcase.
