SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Former Bradley catcher Ryan Eigsti, who has been on the disabled list most of the 2010 season, returned to action Tuesday on a rehab assignment with the Kansas City Royals rookie league affiliate in the Arizona League.

While playing for KC's Double-A affiliate Northwest Arkansas Naturals, Eigsti was struck in the right forearm by a pitch April 16 and was placed on the disabled list April 18 after x-rays revealed a fracture.  The catching prospect returned to action Tuesday by going 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in a 5-4 victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers AZL affiliate.  He added an RBI double in Sunday's 9-7 win against the San Diego Padres affiliate.

From nearby Eureka, Ill., Eigsti was a 15th-round selection by the Royals in the 2007 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft and he has steadily risen through the franchise's minor league system.

Meanwhile, veteran Major League reliever Brian Shouse continued his climb back to the big leagues with three scoreless outings last week for the Charlotte Stone Crabs in the Class A Advanced Florida State League.  Signed by the Tampa Bay Rays earlier this month, Shouse made six appearances for the team's rookie Gulf Coast League affiliate before being promoted to Charlotte last week.

Shouse debuted for Charlotte by tossing 2.0 scoreless innings Wednesday versus the Daytona Cubs.  The side-arming left-hander earned saves in each of his last two outings Friday and Sunday at Clearwater, helping the Stone Crabs to a four-game sweep against the Philadelphia Phillies affiliate.  In nine outings to date in his return to action, Shouse has allowed two runs in 10.2 innings for a 1.69 earned run average.  He has struck out five and has yet to issue a walk.

Shouse is a 10-year Major League veteran who has appeared in 467 games for six teams, most recently by making 45 relief appearances for Tampa Bay in 2009.

Playing right field for the New York Yankees Double-A Eastern League affiliate Trenton Thunder, Dan Brewer begins the week riding a 5-game hitting streak, which included a 3-for-4 performance Thursday at Altoona.  Brewer legged out two doubles and drove in three runs in the 8-3 win to start the series between Eastern League division leaders.  Sparked by Brewer's play, Trenton (60-41) took 3-of-4 at Altoona and now leads the Western Division by 1.5 games.  An eighth-round pick by the Yankees in 2008, Brewer is batting .235, but leads his team and ranks sixth in the league with 21 stolen bases.  He also shares the team lead with 24 doubles.

In the Class A Advanced California League, former Braves hurler Rob Scahill improved to 7-5 on the season by tossing 7.0 strong innings Sunday, leading the Modesto Nuts to a 7-4 win against Lancaster.  Scahill scattered eight hits, but allowed just two runs while striking out five.  An eighth-round pick by the Colorado Rockies in 2009, Scahill is now 5-1 with a 3.07 earned run average in his last nine starts.
