PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore designated hitter Greg Partyka (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after helping the Bradley baseball team to a 4-1 record last week.
Partyka hit .350 (7-for-20) with three doubles and drove in a team-best nine runs in five games at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. In Monday's 7-6 victory against Fairfield, he was 2-for-4 with three RBI and drove in the game-winning run with a two-out, eighth-inning double. In a 3-2 win against Navy, Partyka went 1-for-4 with two RBI, including a game-winning sacrifice fly in the 10th and enters this week with a career-best five-game hit streak. A sports communication major, Partyka owns a 3.23 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Partyka and the Braves play their home opener tonight at 6 p.m. against UIC at O'Brien Field, before opening Missouri Valley Conference play with a three-game weekend series at Southern Illinois starting Friday with a 1 p.m. game in Carbondale, Ill.
