PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore runner Shane Garland (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after matching the third-best 800 meter time in the history of the men's track and field program.
Garland finished 10th in the men's 800 meters at last week's EIU Big Blue Classic in Charleston, Ill., finishing in a time of 1:53.60. He paced seven BU runners in the field and improved his season-best time by more than three seconds. A mechanical engineering major, Garland owns a 3.75 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
The Bradley men's track and field team returns to action Saturday, April 14 at the Lee Calhoun Memorial in Macomb, Ill.
