PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore golfer Daniel Young (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after taking medalist honors at last week's Hotels at Grand Prairie Invitational.
Young opened play at the par-72 WeaverRidge Golf Club with a career-best, two-under par 70 and also carded rounds of 72 and 73 to edge Loyola-Chicago's Erik Hoops by one shot for top individual honors. Young finished with a one-under par 215, turning in the lowest 54-hole total by a Bradley golfer since Coby Thompson shot 215 at the Butler Fall Invitational in October 2009. A history secondary education major, Young owns a 3.87 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Young and the Bradley men's golf team return to action, Sunday, April 22 at the Battle at the Warren in South Bend, Ind., in the team's final tournament before the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship (April 30 & May 1).
