Softball Opens Five-Game Home Stand Against UNI Wednesday
Release: Sunday 04/17/2012

PEORIA, Ill. -- The Bradley softball team went 3-2 on a five-game Missouri Valley Conference road swing and the Braves will try to continue their winning ways Wednesday when BU opens a season-long, five-game home stand with a 2 p.m. doubleheader against league-leading Northern Iowa at Laura Bradley Park.

Bradley (16-21 overall, 6-8 MVC) is tied with Missouri State for sixth in the MVC standings with only three weeks left in the regular season.  The Braves play eight of the final 12 league games at Laura Bradley Park, with three of the top five teams in the Valley standings playing in Peoria down the stretch.  BU has played a league-low six home games heading into Wednesday's twin bill, but has also played the third fewest true road games (12) in the conference this spring.

Boasting a 5-2 record over the last seven games, Bradley has its most wins since 2009 and has two pitchers with six or more victories in the same season for the first time since 2006.  The Braves have hit six home runs in the last seven games, in addition to the pitching staff boasting a 1.13 ERA during the recent run.

Northern Iowa (30-10 overall, 14-0 MVC) is one of the hottest teams in the country, having won 17 of its last 18 games and owning a perfect record in Missouri Valley Conference play.  The Panthers have won 17 consecutive regular-season conference games and 22 of their last 23 regular-season league contests dating back to last year. will provide links to live stats in addition to free video and audio streams of both games of the doubleheader against UNI.  Bradley will close out the season-long, five-game home stand with a weekend series against I-74 rival Illinois State Saturday and Sunday at Laura Bradley Park.

Senior Jackie Roth (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) tied a Bradley career record during Sunday's doubleheader at Indiana State, getting hit by a pitch for the 16th time in her career to match Christine Cooney's school mark.  Roth has been plunked seven times this spring, which is tied for the team lead and is also tied for the second highest season total in school history.  BU's most experienced player, Roth is hitting .375 in Missouri Valley Conference play.

Fellow senior Julie Sherman (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) stole her 17th base of the year Sunday and is third in the Valley in steals this spring.  Her season total is currently eighth among Bradley season marks and she needs three stolen bases to become the fourth different Bradley player to swipe 20 bases in a season.

Freshman Alyson Clemente (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley) hit her third home run in a four-game stretch in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader at Indiana State and has moved into a tie with sophomore Alex Chandler (Needles, Calif./Needles) for the team lead with three homers.  Clemente, who has a team-best 10 RBI in Valley play, is making a bid to become the first freshman to lead the team in home runs since Trick Kowalewski hit a team-best seven home runs as a frosh in 2005.

Junior Mackenzie Camp (Mapleton, Ill./Limestone) has earned victories in each of her last two decisions and owns a 0.89 ERA over her last 15.2 innings of work.  Sophomore Madeline Lynch-Crumrine (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Sedro-Woolley) is 3-2 with a 1.26 ERA over the last seven games and looks to improve on her career 6-8 record and 2.18 ERA in conference games.

Bradley will be hosting a clinic to benefit the Crittenton Center of Peoria following Sunday's noon game against Illinois State.  For more information or to register a child eighth grade or younger for the clinic please contact assistant coach Jennie Shollenberger at jshollenberger@bradley or (309) 677-2565.
