This Week in Bradley Soccer
Bradley will kick off its 26th NCAA Division I men’s soccer season Friday when the Braves host in-state rival Eastern Illinois in a 6 p.m. game at Shea Stadium ... The opening weekend of the season will continue Sunday when the Braves host Western Michigan in a 3 p.m. game at Shea Stadium ... Bradley is opening the season at home for the first time since 2007, when the Braves began the season by hosting the Holiday Inn City Centre Classic.
Bradley-EIU Series History
Friday’s season-opener will be the 24th meeting in the all-time series between Bradley and Eastern Illinois ... The Braves own a 13-8-2 lead in the all-time series, which dates back to a 4-0 loss to the Panthers Sept. 10, 1988 in Charleston ... Bradley has dominated the series of late, posting a 13-2-2 record against Eastern Illinois since the start of the 1998 season ... Bradley is 5-0-0 all-time at Shea Stadium versus the Panthers.
Eastern Illinois Promotions
One of the main events during Bradley University’s Welcome Week, Friday’s game will be President’s Night Out and also will feature a Pregame Fan Fest, as well as postgame autographs with the players ... The Pregame Fan Fest will begin at 4:30 p.m. and will include inflatables, music and t-shirt tie-dying. Posters, schedule cards and thunder sticks all will be available ... As part of the President’s Night Out, Bradley freshmen received a free t-shirt and a concessions voucher during Tuesday night’s Freshman Convocation ... The last two meetings have gone to overtime and Bradley prevailed, 2-1, last season when Bryan Gaul netted the Golden Goal in the 95th minute Sept. 1, 2011 at Shea Stadium.
Bradley-WMU Series History
Bradley is 3-2-0 all-time against Western Michigan ... Sunday’s game will be the first meeting between the two programs since Bradley’s 2-1 victory Sept. 11, 2009 at Shea Stadium.
Western Michigan Promotions
The Braves will not get much of a break before returning to action as Bradley will host Western Michigan Sunday afternoon at Shea Stadium ... All 2012 Central Illinois Soccer Academy summer campers and Bradley Soccer clinic participants will receive free admission to Sunday’s game and thunder sticks will be available for the first 1,000 fans.
