PEORIA, Ill. - Bradley's four doubles teams combined for a 13-2 record and won three of the four flights during the first day of action in the season-opening Bradley Invitational Friday night at the Clubs at River City North.
Rain forced tournament play indoors, but it did not dampen Bradley's performance. The duo of juniors Ashton Kalhorn and Hamish Weerasinghe teamed for a 4-0 record at Flight 2 Doubles, a showing matched by the pairing of senior Eric Nguyen and sophomore Ahmed Albitar at Flight 3 Doubles. The combo of junior Arthur Romanet and sophomore Michael Davis added the Flight 4 Doubles crown with a 3-0 record, which included a victory against the split squad of Bradley junior Kevin Keiner and Bethany (Kan.) College's Will Wiseman.
In Flight 1 Doubles, the Bradley combo of senior Juan Diego Cuadrado and junior Justin Abrams rebounded from an opening loss by taking a second-round match in a tie-breaker. After cruising in round three, the Braves were a double match-point away from claiming the flight title, but the Southwest Baptist team of Domingos Carissimo and Omar El Kheshen rallied for an 8-6 victory to complete a 4-0 run through the flight.
The six-team tournament will continue with singles action in eight flights Saturday and Sunday. Action will begin at 9 a.m. both days with Flights 1-4 competing on campus at the David Markin Tennis Courts and Flights 5-8 playing at the Bradley Park Tennis Courts.
