NORMAL, Ill. -- Sophomore Thea Hedemann (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan/Walter Murray) is second after 36 holes and the Bradley women's golf team is fifth in the team standings after the first day of play at the Redbird Invitational at the par-72 Weibring Golf Course.
Hedemann is three shots behind individual leader Katie Jean (145) of Illinois State for the individual lead and owns a two-shot lead on Allison Schultz (150) of Toledo, who finished the day in third. Hedemann opened play with a one-over par 73 and carded a second-round 75 during Saturday's action.
Bradley is fifth in the team standings after two rounds of play. Toledo (610) was the top team on Saturday and enters Sunday's final round with a three shot-lead on second-place Bowling Green (613). Tournament-host Illinois State is third at 615, while Ball State (621) ended the day with a one-shot lead on the Braves (622).
Freshman Danielle Lemek (Doniphan, Neb./Doniphan-Trumbull) carded a 79 in her first collegiate round and followed it up with a four-over 76 in the second round (155) to close the day in 21st. Junior Cassandra Marschall (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield/Wisconsin-Green Bay) enters Sunday's final round one shot behind Lemek in 22nd (156) after matching a career-best 74 in the opening round and following it up with an 82.
Jenna Roadley (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Sturgeon Heights) is tied for49th at 164, following rounds of 80 and 84 in her first career outing. Sophomore Christie Lin (Calgary, Alberta/Sir John G Diefenbaker) is one shot behind Roadley in a tie for 51st at 165, after rounds of 79 and 86.
Bradley has a six-shot edge on sixth-place Akron (628) and the Braves are 12 shots better than Missouri Valley Conference foe Drake (7th - 634). Southern Illinois closed the day in eighth (635) and Eastern Kentucky followed in ninth (636). Ohio is 10th overall (642) with Western Illinois (11th -643), Oakland (12th - 649), South Dakota State (13th - 656), Evansville (14th - 663) and Illinois Wesleyan (15th - 671) completing the field, respectively.
BU closes out play at the Redbird Invitational Sunday with one round of play.
