NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Bradley junior midfielder Keegan Balle scored the golden goal in the 92nd minute helping the Braves (4-1-2) extend their unbeaten streak to five games with a 2-1 overtime victory against Lipscomb (2-5-0) in the opening game of the Mafiaoza’s Invitational Friday at Belmont’s E.S. Rose Park.
Balle extended a goal-scoring streak of his own by hitting the back of the net for the fourth consecutive game, matching the second-longest goal-scoring streak in Bradley history and the longest since Preston Good scored in four straight games from Oct. 15-24, 2004. The winning strike just 1:36 into overtime also marked the second quickest “golden” goal ever by a Brave.
Bradley took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute on the first goal of the season by junior forward Wojcik Wojciech, who finished off a service from senior back Tapiwa Machingauta. Junior forward Ross Williams was credited with the assist on Balle’s game-winning strike.
Bradley finished the game with a 14-7 advantage in shots, but surrendered the tying goal in the 67th minute.
Friday’s box score will be posted later tonight.
The Braves will return to action Sunday afternoon by taking on host Belmont (1-4-1) in the Mafiaoza’s Invitational tournament finale. Sunday’s kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 at E.S. Rose Park.
