NORMAL, Ill. – Bradley won one singles consolation final and a pair of doubles consolation finals, highlighting the final day of the Redbird Roundup Sunday at the Gregory Street Tennis Courts.
The Redbird Roundup was a six-team, flighted tournament featuring players from Bradley, Butler, Drake, Illinois State, Morehead State and Saint Louis.
Sophomore Jessie Bertino downed teammate Lauren Watts (6-4, 6-2) to win the consolation final in Flight 3 Singles Sunday afternoon. The intrasquad matchup was setup when Bertino knocked off Drake’s Amanda Dick (6-3, 6-0) in one consolation semifinal, while Watts took down Butler’s Sienna Reuter (6-1, 6-3) in the other semifinal.
In doubles action, the Bradley pairing of Adele Henke and Sarah Rodefeld claimed the Flight 1 Doubles consolation title with a 9-8 (7-5) win against Butler’s Brittney Farmer and Stephanie McLoughlin. Meanwhile the Braves duo of Brigitte Graf and Cassia Wojtalik captured the Doubles Flight 2 consolation final in another intrasquad matchup, beating the Bradley combo of Ashley Roth and Watts (8-3).
The Braves will return to action Oct. 5-7 when they compete in the Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Tennis Individual Championships at Wichita State. Bradley’s fall schedule will conclude Oct. 13-14 at the Wisconsin-Milwaukee Tournament.
