WICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita State rallied late in both the first and second sets, before taking the third set to sweep Bradley 25-21, 25-23, 25-12 Saturday at Charles Koch Arena in Missouri Valley Conference volleyball action.
Junior Amy Angelos (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan) tallied a team-high 12 kills, while senior Madelyn Ervin (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) served up a career-best five aces to go with seven kills in the setback.
Bradley (8-16 overall, 2-11 MVC) used a 6-2 run to build a 19-12 lead on a Courtney Keefe (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) kill in the opening frame. Wichita State (17-6 overall, 10-3 MVC) answered with eight consecutive points to go in front 20-19 and followed a Bradley kill with three more of its own to build a 23-20 advantage.
After an Alise Tupuritis (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) kill pulled BU within two points at 23-21, the Shockers got kills by Ashlyn Driskill and Sam Sanders to close out a 25-21 Wichita State win.
Like the first set, Bradley built a lead before Wichita State rallied late to take the frame. Ervin, who served up three of her career-best five aces in the second set, gave Bradley a 23-19 lead with her final ace of the set. The Shockers followed a BU attack error with six consecutive points and took the second set 25-23.
Wichita State jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the third set and never looked back, hitting .520 in the frame and cruised to a 25-12 victory to close out the sweep.
Ervin helped Bradley serve up a season-best nine aces, collecting five in the match. Angelos led Bradley's offensive efforts with a team-best 12 kills, while hitting .308. Keefe collected a team-best 12 digs, while junior Lauren Zerante (Elmhurst, Ill./York) added 11 digs.
Sam Sanders led Wichita State with 13 kills and Shocker setter Chelsey Feekin tallied seven kills, 33 assists and 11 digs to help highlight the Shocker attack.
Bradley opens the final home stand of the 2012 season Friday with a 7 p.m. match against Creighton. Friday's matchup with the Bluejays will be Senior Day for the Braves, with BU seniors Madelyn Ervin and Jessica McNellis recognized prior to the match.
