PEORIA, Ill. – Ariel Dechter, who has starred on the courts for Mundelein, Ill., High School, became the first recruit for first-year Bradley Women’s Tennis coach Chris Williams when she signed her National Letter of Intent today to attend Bradley University and play tennis for the Braves during the 2013-14 school year.
Dechter, who signed her NLI at Mundelein H.S. Wednesday morning, is a “4-star rated recruit” ranked among the nation’s top 140 prep players. She is a four-time all-state performer for the Mustangs, reaching the semifinals of the 2010 Illinois High School Association state tournament, as well as the quarterfinals in 2011. Dechter made the Round of 64 in 2009 and the Sweet 16 in 2012.
“Ari is a great kid from a great family,” said Williams. “She has been successful both in the classroom and on the tennis court and I expect her to make an instant impact on our team. I’m looking forward to working with her for the next four years.”
“I was looking for a small school relatively close to home and Bradley was a perfect fit,” said Dechter of her decision to attend Bradley. “I loved the size and the way the school is set up and easy to get around. I also love the coach, and the girls on the team are very nice. My dad and uncles graduated from Bradley and absolutely loved it.”
In addition to her play on the tennis courts, Dechter is a member of the National Honor Society and intends to major in business at Bradley.
