DES MOINES, Iowa – Bradley junior Arthur Romanet (Castelldefels, Spain/Schiller International School) will not get a chance to defend his No. 7 Singles title from the 2012 Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Tennis Individual Championships.  Instead, Romanet will compete for the No. 1 Singles crown when the 2013 MVC Individual Championships begin Friday at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.

Romanet owns a 53-27 career singles record, but he has not played a match in the No. 1 or No. 2 position in his 3-year career.  Romanet is 4-1 all-time at No. 3 singles and enjoyed a strong tournament season this past fall by going 10-2 in singles play.

Junior Hamish Weerasinghe, who was second to Romanet with nine singles wins this fall, will play in the Flight 2 Singles draw at the MVC Individuals.  Sophomore Ahmed Albitar, who was named to the MVC All-Select Team as a freshman in 2012, will compete in Flight 3 singles.  Senior Juan Diego Cuadrado will represent the Braves in the Flight 4 Singles draw, while junior Justin Abrams will play in Flight 5, junior Kevin Keiner in Flight 6 and sophomore Michael Davis in Flight 7.

In doubles action, Albitar and Weerasinghe will compete in Flight 1, Abrams and Cuadrado will team in Flight 2 and Davis and Romanet in Flight 3.

Drake University is hosting the 2013 MVC Men’s Tennis Individual Championships Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center and the tournament results will be posted online at mvc-sports.com.
