DES MOINES, Iowa – On a day that saw host Drake dominate play at the 2013 Missouri Valley Conference Men's Tennis Individual Championships, the Bradley doubles team of Michael Davis and Arthur Romanet nearly spoiled the party, but the Braves dropped the Flight 3 Doubles championship in a tie-breaker Sunday at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
Drake won all seven singles flight championships and two of the three doubles crowns. Davis and Romanet suffered an 8-7 (3) loss to the Bulldogs combo of Tesmer/Lott in the Flight 3 championship match. The Illinois State tandem of Palaez/Eisner knocked off the Drake duo of Salibasic/McKie in the Flight 1 Doubles title match to prevent the Bulldogs from a sweep of all 10 singles and doubles championship matches Sunday.
Drake’s singles sweep included Alen Salibasic’s 6-3, 6-3 win against Bradley sophomore Ahmed Albitar in the Flight 3 championship match Sunday.
The Braves finished the weekend with the pair of runner-up finishes by Albitar and the Davis/Romanet doubles team, as well as consolation titles by Hamish Weerasinghe (Flight 2 Singles) and Juan Diego Cuadrado (Flight 4 Singles).
Bradley will begin the dual-match season Jan. 30 by visiting Saint Louis. The Braves also will visit Iowa Feb. 1, before hosting Kansas City Feb. 3 at the Clubs at River City in the first home match of the season.
