EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- The Bradley women's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring season with junior Adele Henke's (Edina, Minn./Edina) three-set victory at #1 singles clinching the 4-3 victory at SIU Edwardsville Sunday afternoon.
After winning two of three doubles matches to take the first point of the match, Bradley (1-2 overall) earned a trio of three-set singles wins for the team's first victory of the spring and head coach Chris Williams' first win at BU.
Henke and sophomore Corey Matrson (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) helped highlight doubles play with an 8-3 win at #1 doubles and the Bradley duo of senior Kennedy Scott (Calgary, Alberta /National Sports School) and sophomore Carly Miles (Greentown, Ind./Eastern) earned an 8-6 victory at #3 doubles to help the Braves take an early 1-0 lead.
At #4 singles Cassia Wojtalik (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) rallied after dropping the opening set for a 6-7, 6-0, 6-2 win. Miles also dropped the opening set at #5 singles, before regrouping for a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 win.
Henke's 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) win at #1 singles sealed the match for the Braves.
Bradley will have next week off of competition before traveling to Kalmazoo, Mich., for three matches, beginning with a 5 p.m. contest against Western Michigan on Saturday, Feb. 16.
