ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Junior Madeline Lynch-Crumrine (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Sedro-Woolley) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
A Louisville Slugger NFCA All-Mideast Region selection last year and two-time First-Team All-Missouri Valley Conference pick, Lynch-Crumrine is the first Bradley player to earn MVC Pitcher of the Week honors since Ashley Birdsong on May 4, 2009.
Lynch-Crumrine went 2-1 in four appearances with a complete game shutout and a 1.66 ERA in 25.1 innings of work at the season-opening Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz., over the weekend. She made all four of her appearances against teams which advanced to the 2012 NCAA Tournament, striking out 16 batters and holding opposing hitters to a .186 batting average.
Her three starts over the weekend were against squads which combined for an 11-8 NCAA Tournament record and she went 2-1 with a 1.40 ERA in those three contests. In the season opener against 21st-ranked Stanford, she came out of the bullpen to strike out five and walk one, while surrendering two earned run and five hits in 5.1 innings.
She came back the next day to pitch a complete game in Bradley's 2-1 win against 13th-ranked Arizona for BU's first win against a ranked team since the 2009 NCAA Tournament. Lynch-Crumrine struck out five and walked two, while holding the Wildcats to five hits in the win.
Saturday, she tossed the first complete game shutout of her career, blanking preseason Big Sky Conference favorite Portland State. Lynch-Crumrine scattered four singles and two walks, while striking out three and walking two against the Vikings. She capped the week Sunday, holding fourth-ranked Arizona State to four hits in a 3-0 setback. Lynch-Crumrine held the Sun Devils to two hits through the first five innings, struck out three and walked two in her only loss of the weekend.
The Bradley softball team returns to action Friday at 10 a.m. (CST), opening play at the New Mexico Lobo Classic in Albuquerque, N.M. against IPFW.
