PEORIA, Ill. -- Bradley women's cross country/track & field head coach Marc Burns received a pair of commitments with Lauren Cunningham (Bayside, Wis./Nicolet) and Katie Wampole (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) both signing National Letters of Intent during the recent signing period.
Cunningham finished 30th at the Wisconsin cross country championship as a senior and placed sixth at the state track and field championship in the 3,200 meters last spring. She owns a 1,600 meter personal best time of 5:04 and her 3,200 meter personal best is 10:55.
"Lauren is extremely talented and has a true distance runners build," said Burns. "She has enjoyed great success in high school, but based on her training, her best years should be ahead of her. Lauren has run faster as a junior than any other recruit we have signed in the past three years. She had a great senior cross country season running the #3 time in the state of Wisconsin. We feel she has the intangibles it takes to be great. Lauren is very intelligent and has a great mental outlook on life. She also shows great poise when she competes and flat out knows how to win a race.""
Wampole posted a 16th-place finish at the state cross country championship and clocked a personal best time in the 4K this fall at 14:33.
"Katie will be a great addition to our team," added Burns. "Her athletic background leads us to believe she has a lot of potential to improve throughout her college years. Katie has a tremendous work ethic in the classroom and in her running. We are thrilled to have her joining the program.
"Coach (Matt) Esche and the rest of the staff have done a great job with this recruiting class," stated Burns. "We are thrilled with the two signees, but there are a good number of other future Braves who are either walking on or have received other types of financial aid, who will all help further the development of our squad."
