ST. LOUIS – Bradley senior Juan Diego Cuadrado (Almeria, Spain) has been selected the Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for his performance during the Braves’ 4-match home stand last week, according to an announcement from the league office Tuesday.
Cuadrado led the Braves (7-6) to a 3-1 record last week by compiling a combined 6-1 singles and doubles record. Playing in each of the top three singles positions during the week, Cuadrado was 2-1 individually, suffering only a 3-set loss in No. 1 singles against IUPUI after the team victory already was decided. Cuadrado teamed with Hamish Weerasinghe for a 4-0 record at No. 2 doubles, including Bradley’s only win in a 4-0 loss Friday night against Green Bay.
With a 14-10 singles record so far this year, Cuadrado has pushed his career record to 64-61 and has climbed into a tie for ninth on the Bradley men’s tennis singles victories list. With three more wins, he will move into fourth place on the list with the most singles victories by a Brave since Mike Berwald (79) set the school record for career wins from 1988-91.
The Braves will play their next four matches away from home, beginning Sunday at Western Kentucky in what is expected to be their first outdoor match of 2013. Following the road swing, Bradley will open the Missouri Valley Conference slate with a 3-match home stand, beginning with a 1 p.m. match April 6 versus Southern Illinois on campus at the David Markin Tennis Courts.
Admission is free for all Bradley men’s and women’s tennis home matches.
