KISSIMEE, Fla. – Bradley jumped on Big East Conference foe Connecticut by sweeping the doubles matches and the Braves (9-6) rode the momentum to a 5-2 victory against the Huskies Tuesday morning for the team’s third consecutive win and fifth victory in the last six matches.

The doubles pairing of Justin Abrams and Arthur Romanet posted a convincing 8-0 win at #3 doubles to get things started and the duo of Juan Diego Cuadrado and Hamish Weerasinghe improved to 6-0 at #2 doubles this spring with an 8-2 win at #2 doubles to clinch the first point of the match for Bradley.  Ahmed Albitar and Ashton Kalhorn finishing off the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win at #1 doubles.

“At this point in the season, it was a very uplifting result for the Bradley men’s tennis team,” said Braves head coach Jesse Plote.  “Our play today should spark a lot of confidence in the team, not just by beating a Big East team, but by the way we went about our business.  The intensity and energy we brought out in doubles carried over to a complete win and I am very proud of the way our guys competed today.”

Kalhorn was the first to finish in singles action, earning his fifth consecutive singles win with a 6-0, 6-0 straight-set victory at #5 singles against UCONN’s James Cohen.  Albitar pushed his singles win streak to four consecutive matches, topping Mark HoSang 6-1, 6-0 at #3 singles.

Weerasinghe was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at #2 singles and a 6-1, 6-3 win at #6 singles by Abrams sealed the victory for the Braves.  Connecticut fell to 3-7 on the season with the loss.

The Bradley men’s tennis team returns to action Thursday, playing a pair of matches in Huntsville, Ala., against Alabama A&M (1 p.m.) and Alabama-Huntsville (4 p.m.)
