PEORIA, Ill. – Bradley will try to extend its winning streak to the longest in 26 years when the Braves (12-6) host Missouri Valley Conference rival Southern Illinois (9-3) in the league opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at the David Markin Tennis Courts.
The 1 p.m. match versus the Salukis will open a 3-match home stand for Bradley, which has won six straight duals for its longest win streak since taking the final seven matches of the 1986-87 season. The Braves also will welcome Interstate 74 rival Illinois State to the Markin Courts Thursday (2 p.m.), followed by a visit from Wichita State April 13 (1 p.m.).
Bradley and Southern Illinois have five common opponents this spring and both squads are 5-0 against Eastern Illinois, Illinois-Chicago, Kansas City, Saint Louis and Western Illinois.
The Bradley-Southern Illinois series has been highlighted by tight decisions, though the Salukis own a 25-10 all-time record in the series. SIU has won the last seven matchups, the last four in a row and five of the seven by 4-3 margins. Bradley won the four previous meetings, also by 4-3 scores, meaning nine of the last 11 matches in the series have been decided by just one point.
Admission to Bradley men’s and women’s tennis matches is free.
