PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior men’s tennis player Juan Diego Cuadrado (Almeria, Spain/I.E.S. Alboran School) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after helping Bradley to a 2-1 record last week.
Cuadrado, who became the fourth player in school history with 70 career singles victories and moved into a tie for third in career singles victories, posted a 4-2 combined singles and doubles record in three matches last week. He earned his 70th career singles win with a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles in addition to earning a doubles win to help Bradley top Omaha 6-1 Friday. Cuadrado was a 6-4, 6-2 winner at No. 1 singles in a victory at Creighton Saturday, while also earning a doubles win to help highlight BU’s sixth consecutive victory against the Bluejays. An economics major, Cuadrado owns a 3.46 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Cuadrado and the Braves face I-74 rival Illinois State in the opening round of the Missouri Valley Conference Championship Friday at 12:30 p.m. in Wichita, Kan.
