PEORIA, Ill. – Ashley Thai, an all-state performer from Hilliard, Ohio, Bradley High School, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Bradley University and play tennis for the Braves during the 2013-14 school year.
Thai becomes the second member of head coach Chris Williams’ first recruiting class at Bradley, joining Mundelein, Ill., High School star Ariel Dechter as incoming Bradley freshmen.
A four-year varsity letterwinner at Hilliard Bradley High School, Thai teamed with her cousin, Lauren, to win the 2010 Ohio Division II doubles state championship and earned all-state honors in 2012, while also winning 2nd Court championships in the Ohio Capital Conference in 2009, 2010 and 2011. A two-time Columbus Dispatch Athlete of the Month, Thai helped HBHS to a fourth-place finish in the 2010 state tournament.
Thai also helped her club program to three straight appearances in nationals, including a third-place finish in 2011 and seventh-place finishes in 2010 and 2011.
“Ashley will be a big asset to our program,” said Bradley head coach Chris Williams. “She is a great student in the classroom and will make an impact on the singles and doubles lineup. I’m super excited to have her join our team and look forward to continue climb in the Missouri Valley Conference standings.”
The daughter of Tung and Lynda Thai, Ashley Thai has been on her school’s Honor Roll throughout her high school career and will graduate in the top 10 percent of her class. She also is a member of the HBHS Symphonic Choir and the student government class cabinet.
“When I visited Bradley, I knew I loved it from the beginning,” said Thai. “The campus is beautiful and there is a great atmosphere. Coach Williams was very easy to get to know and the girls on the team are so welcoming; I cannot wait to become part of the team.
“Academically, Bradley is exactly what I wanted,” Thai added. “Bradley has my intended major and when I got to meet with Dr. Michelle Fry to talk about the coursework, I was sure it was a perfect fit.”
