PEORIA, Ill -- Sophomore Sarah McMahon (Colfax, Wis./Colfax) will represent Bradley at next week’s NCAA Outdoor Track & Field West Regional in Austin, Texas, announced Thursday afternoon.
A six-time All-Missouri Valley Conference performer, McMahon will run in the 10,000 meters Thursday, May 23 at 9 p.m. in Austin, Texas, marking the third time in the last four years the Braves have had an individual competing in the NCAA West Regional.
McMahon earned 11 of Bradley’s 23 points at last week’s Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship, finishing fourth in Sunday’s 5,000 meters two days after placing third in the 10,000 meters last Friday. She took home all-conference honors in the 10,000 meters with a time of 35:48.60.
McMahon’s career-best time of 34:53.16, which she set last month at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif., is the second fastest 10,000 meter time in school history. Her season-best effort is less than three seconds off Bradley Hall of Fame member Mary Ellen Hill’s school record time of 34:50.62 set in 2000 and ranks 30th among entries in next week’s race. McMahon is the first Bradley underclassmen to advance to NCAA competition since Hill did so as a sophomore at both the 1998 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships.
The top 12 finishers from Thursday’s NCAA preliminary race will advance to the NCAA Championship, which will be held June 5 in Euguene, Ore.
