WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Bradley freshmen Sergio Rakitin and Dan Rodefeld combined for Bradley’s three singles wins and a pair of doubles victories Saturday to highlight Day 2 action for the Braves at the Purdue Fall Invitational.

Saturday’s play began with doubles action and the combo of Ashton Kalhorn and Hamish Weerasinghe advanced to the A Flight quarterfinals before bowing out to the tournament’s fourth-seeded doubles team from the host Boilermakers. After receiving a first-round bye Friday, the Bradley duo dumped the Louisville combo of Bonfre/Frias, 8-4, then outlasted the Purdue tandem of Dobradin/Hawkins in a tie-breaker, 9-8 (2), before falling to the fourth-seeded Purdue team of Kovacs/Tatarczyk, 8-5.

After dropping their first-round match Friday night, the Braves team of Justin Abrams and Rodefeld got off to a strong start in Saturday’s A Flight consolation bracket by pulling out a 9-8 (4) win against the IUPUI tandem of Bradley/Gans. Abrams and Rodefeld followed with an 8-5 win against the Washington (St. Louis) pairing of Chadalavada/Franklin and are scheduled to play in the consolation quarterfinals at 8 o’clock Sunday morning.

Though Rakitin and Arthur Romanet dropped their second-round match in B Flight doubles Saturday morning, Rakitin did not let the result affect his singles play. The freshman Spaniard breezed to a pair of straight-set victories to reach the semifinals of the Flight E singles bracket: first with a 6-1, 6-4 versus Max Franklin of Washington (St. Louis) and followed by a 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals versus Harsha Manjunath of Vincennes. Rakitin will face Marquette’s Kritsian Trukov in the flight’s 10:30 a.m. semifinal Sunday.

Rodefeld began his Saturday singles action in the Flight D consolation draw with a 6-3, 1-6, 13-11 win against Green Bay’s Marius Merz, before dropping a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Purdue’s Arthur Dobradin in the consolation bracket quarterfinals.
