ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Sophomore Danielle Lemek (Doniphan, Neb./ Doniphan-Trumbull) has earned Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week honors for the fourth time this spring and sixth time in 2013-14 according to an announcement by the league office Wednesday after she tied for fifth at the Plantation Inn Intercollegiate earlier this week.
Lemek opened play at the par-72 Plantation Inn Golf Resort in Cyrstal River, Fla., with a one-over par 73 to extend her streak of consecutive sub-80 rounds to 12 and tie for the fourth longest streak in program history. She entered the final round tied for 20th after a second round 81, but shot a school record 66 in the final round to vault into a tie for fifth in the final individual standings.
Lemek was even through her first six holes of the final round, before firing six birdies in her final 12 holes to finish at six-under par 66 and tie for fifth in the field at 220 (73-81-66). The top-10 finish was her eighth consecutive top-10 showing and she broke the previous school record of 68 set in February 2012 by two strokes.
The top-10 finish was Lemek’s seventh of the year, matching a school season record which she tied last season as a freshman and she also moved into sixth in school history with her 47th career round under 80. She is tied for fourth in school history with 14 career top-10 finishes.
This spring, Lemek has garnered Valley Golfer of the Week honors after each of her four tournaments and has received the conference honor following six of eight tournaments in 2013-14. She leads the MVC with a 73.57 season stroke average. Lemek is one of five individuals in league history to win MVC Golfer of the Week recognition nine or more times, joining the Illinois State trio of Samantha Richdale (17 times), Tina Lindsey (11 times) and Stacey Miller (10 times) along with Drake’s Olivia Lansing (11 times).
