PEORIA, Ill. -- The Bradley men’s golf team has a busy week ahead, playing a dual at Illinois State Saturday before making what has become an almost annual trip to Macomb, Ill., next week for the 42nd annual Beu Mussatto Invitational Monday and Tuesday.
The Braves will face I-74 rival Illinois State in a dual Saturday starting at 11 a.m. at ISU’s Weibring Golf Course. Bradley tied for seventh at the Weibring Intercollegiate back in September, finishing with the lowest 54-hole team score (885) since the 2006-07 season.
Bradley will be playing in the Beu Mussatto Invite for the 11th time in the last 13 years and will be part of a spring tournament in Macomb, Ill., for the 33rd time in 41 seasons. Bradley will play back-to-back tournaments in the state of Illinois, starting with the Beu Mussatto Invitational in addition to hosting the Bradley Invitational at WeaverRidge Golf Course April 5 & 6.
The Braves have had success in Macomb, Ill., turning in the third lowest round of the 2012-13 season in the second round of last year’s event. Junior Seth Trolia (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) has gone a full year shooting in the 70’s or better since wrapping up last year’s Beu Mussatto Invitational and has 26 consecutive sub-80 rounds for the fifth longest streak in program history.
Trolia has carded 74 or better in four of his six career rounds at the home course for Western Illinois and owns a team-best 75.33 career stroke average in the tournament.
Senior Daniel Young (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) is making his fourth trip to the Beu Mussatto Invitational and looks to repeat last season’s performance, which saw him card a career-best 69. Young has finished in the top 20 in two of his three previous trips to Macomb, Ill., and has averaged 75.38 strokes per round in eight career efforts.
Junior Danny Masrin (Palatine, Ill./Jakarta International School) has a 76.33 career stroke average at the Beu Mussatto Invite, shooting in the 70’s in five of six rounds. He is closing in on the top 20 in school history in career sub-80 rounds and is one of four active Braves in the top 25 in program history for career rounds in the 70’s or better.
Senior Kyle Gunther (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Christian) has posted a 77.6 stroke average in two prior to trips to Macomb, Ill., and tied for 29th at last year’s event. Sophomore Alex Shane (Morton, Ill./Morton/Illinois Central) has rounded out Bradley’s lineup each of the last two tournaments and fired a season-best one-under 71 to open the team’s dual at Jacksonville last week.
